2018 Winners

View 2019 Categories

All members are encouraged to submit at least one photograph, and to “try something new” by submitting an entry in a category that they would not normally have photographed.

General Requirements:

1. Only photographic entries from Photography Club Members will be accepted.
2. Photos must have a print size that will fit into an 11 x 14 frame.
3. Members are encouraged to use black or white mats. (You man use any colour
you wish but judges usually prefer black or white). A standard mat of 11 x 14
inches should be used for all photos.
4. Each photo must have a “Photo Entry Form” affixed to the left upper back of
the mat board. Entry forms will be available at Photo Club meetings.
5. Photos and any components must be wholly the work of the stated
photographer. Photos submitted in a previous year are not eligible. Photos
submitted to “Mini” contests may be submitted to the exhibition.
6. No name or mark identifying the photographer is permitted on the front of
photo.
7. There will be twelve categories. Each member is permitted a maximum of ten
entries, with not more than two in any one category. Each member will be
responsible for verifying that the photo fits the category description. Photos
that do not fit the category may be disqualified by the judges or the Board.

Division Entry Requirements

There are three divisions for judging. Photographers must enter their photographs
in the appropriate division, according to their experience and past results.

Gold - Experienced or professional photographers
Silver- More Advanced amateurs
Bronze - Beginning Photographers

You will be moved to the next level up if the average score for your photos (by the
judges) is .50 higher than the average for the division you show in. Example: You
show in bronze and achieve an average score of 22.4. If the average for the
division that year is 21.3, then you will be moved to silver and show in that
division for at least one year. Our new system allows members to move up and
down in divisions.

Permitted Photo Alterations and Adjustments

(These guidelines pertain to all categories except Digital Art.) Manipulation and
modification of photos is limited to the following: resizing, cropping, selective
lightening or darkening, red eye reduction, minor restoration, minor colour
enhancement or softening, and minor sharpening or blurring. Processing
techniques such as levels, saturation, sharpening, high dynamic range and
panoramic stitching are permitted so long as they appear natural. Minor elements
may be removed from a photograph, but no addition of any element to a
photograph is permitted. All modifications must appear as natural. Any alterations
in excess of this will require the photograph to be placed in Digital Art Category.

Judging of Photographs

Three judges will be selected to judge the entries in accordance with generally
accepted judging standards. In addition, those who attend the exhibition will be
invited to vote for their favourite photo in each category. Therefore there could be
two first place, two second place, two third place, and possibly one or more
honourable mentions in each category, plus a ”Best of Show” and Best of Division
winner. Also this year we have added Judges Choice Awards for each division.
Those with winning first place photographs will be asked to loan them to the Photo
Club, complete with their 11” x 14” mat. The club will then frame and display
them in the hallway outside the Kokopelli Room until the following year’s
exhibition, in accordance with approved arrangements between the Photo Club &
Viewpoint management. These photos will be returned to their owners at the end
of the display year.
